Biresin® CR84 proves to be the right choice for a unique art instalation in Munich.
The “Mae West” sculpture was planned for erection in June 2010 in the Effnerplatz, Munich. It was designed by Rita McBride and was the winning entry in a competition in 2002 for a large urban sculpture to be placed in the Effnerplatz. It consists of 40m long carbon fibre reinforced composite tubes produced by CGB GmbH in a patented, coreless, automated winding process which enables the production of tubes up to 42,5m long and 1m in diameter. The lower part of the construction has stainless steel insert tubes to ensure crashworthiness. The Mae West is partly sponsored by CGB Weißgerber and Sika Deutschland GmbH who formulated the Biresin® CR84 epoxy resin system especially for this process.
